Six years later....

So, once again, I'm thinking of resurrecting this blog, only this time I'm going to focus on games in general, be they video or tabletop.  Time will tell whether or not I actually get this going, but I'm kind of feeling like I need an outlet again.

Since l blogged, I reignited my love of tabletop games, mostly RPGs, but a few boardgames as well. I tried getting into miniatures, as well, but my arthritis and bad eyesight got in the way of that, but I'm still considering giving it a try with the right aids.  The RPG resurgence is largely due to friends who are in the industry, but Critical Role also played a part in it.

Anywho, I'll wrap this up for now, and who knows?  Maybe this'll be a regular gig again.

End of an era

Ladies and gentlemen, Adam Sessler has left the building.

After around 15 years at G4 (in all of its incarnations), Sessler's finally flipped them the bird and moved on, and I can't say I blame him.

Rest for the wicked, but no sleep 'til launch

With school starting in almost exactly 4 weeks, I'm now weening myself off gaming.  I might go snag Bioshock 2, now that it's $30, but that's going to be it for a while.  I am contemplating picking up Halo: Reach on launch night, because I've never done a midnight launch from the other side of the doors, so I'm interested in the experience of it.  It's seemed like fun, and reminds me of my days lining up for the first showing of new movies at the Uptown, when I lived in Toronto.

Tears of War

I cried during Gears of War 2.

It's the scene where Dom finds his wife after she's been taken by the Locusts, and I almost completely bawled during it. While I know exactly what it was, a visual cue, that touched a nerve with me, I'm not exactly sure why it was as evocative as it was. Is the direction and writing more nuanced that it seems?

Richard B. Riddick and the Annals of Video Game Badassery

So, this morning I finished The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, including Escape from Butcher’s Bay (the remake/remaster of the original Xbox game that was also on the disc), a couple of day’s previously. It was a satisfying, if frequently frustrating, play and I think I would recommend it to people who want to try something a little more ambitious than your average FPS.
