Okay, see the name of this blog?
Single Player Offline
This is what I do. I have never played a single online game since getting my 360, and I'm really nervous about trying it. Honestly, the horror stories about online games are largely what's keeping me from it, but there also is some social phobia involved. I'm not particularly great at gaming, and I really don't want that to be used against me, which a lot of these jackasses do.
I want my experience to be fun, not filled with adolescent mocking and irritation. This is why I game, to get away from the day to day crap, and just get immersed in a fun environment. I don't play to be pwned (pronounced poned, not owned, as the producers of Pure Pwnage want you to believe), I don't play to get bullied by jerks who camp beside respawn points, and I certainly don't play to get homophobic slurs thrown at me.
Supposedly, there are XBL moderators to stop this kind of crap from going on, and that's part of what I pay for with my XBL Gold membership. It's kind of silly to be paying $60 a year and not use it, but that's what I'm doing. I'm too timid to play, but I should change that this weekend, if only to experience it.
This weekend is the San Diego Comic-Con, and Epic games is hosting a special 20x XP multiplayer event for Gears of War 2. If there was a time to play, it would be this weekend, as I could level up a lot faster than I would normally. I really should bite that virtual bullet.
